Simple, Compound, Complex sentence?

Although all of you have learn them before but sometimes some of you get confuse to differentiate among them. Here, we will discuss about simple, compound, and complex sentence.


Simple Sentence
A simple sentence, also called and independent clause, contain a subject and a verb, and its express a complete thought. In the following simple sentences, subjects are in green and verbs are in yellow.

--> The students do their writing then write their article in their blog.
--> Patric gives comment in Sandy's blog.

Compound Sentence
A compound sentence contains two independent clauses joined by a coordinator. The coordinator are as follows: for, and, nor, but, or, so, yet (biar lebih mudah dihafal kamu bisa mengejanya menjadi FUNBOYS)
In the following compound sentence, subjects are in green, verbs are in yellow, and the coordinator and the coma that precede them are in red.

--> I tried to write English text, and my friend tried to read aloud.
--> She came late, but her mother was not angry with her.

A. Maya went shopping, so her friend played the game alone.
B. Maya went shopping, for her friend played the game alone.

Note how the conscious use of coordinator can change the relationship between the clauses. Sentence A and B for example are identical except for coordinator. In sentence A, which action occurred first? and how about the sentence B?

Complex Sentence
A complex sentence has and independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses. A complex sentence always has a subordinator such as because, since, after, although, and when. In addition, there are some relative pronoun such as that, who, or which.
In the following complex sentence, subjects are in green, verbs are in yellow, and the subordinator are in red.

A. When he handed in his homework, he forgot to give the teacher the last page.
B. The teacher returned the homework after she noticed the error.
C. The students are studying because they have a test tomorrow.
D. After they finished studying, Richard and Maria went to the movies.
E. Richard and Maria went to the movies after they finished studying.

When a complex sentence begins with a subordinator such as sentences A and D, a comma is required at the end of the dependent clause. When the independent clauses begins the sentence with subordinator in the middle as in sentences B, C, and E, no comma is required. If a comma is placed before the subordinator in sentences B, C, and E, it is wrong.
Note that sentences D and E are the same except sentence D begins with the dependent clause which is followed by a comma, and sentence E begins with the independent clause which contain no comma. The comma after the dependent clause in sentence D is required. In sentence E, however, there will be no pause when independent clause begins the sentence.
